Ability KC
Founded in 1947, Ability KC proudly provides a unique, personalized approach to care, serving people of all ages through educational, vocational, and therapeutic services. Serving thousands of individuals and their families annually, Ability KC is the longest-standing comprehensive outpatient medical rehabilitation facility in Kansas City that is building brighter futures for children and adults with disabilities, providing a continuum of care for all of life’s milestones.
BeGreat Together
BeGreat Together provides funding and supports the development of public school programs and initiatives. The Kansas City nonprofit was created with the belief that many of our most influential changemakers are in our own schools and neighborhoods, and serves to fund innovative ideas that improve the lives of public school students within the K-12 education environment.
Black Community FunD
Established as a fund at the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation by the Hall Family Foundation in 1983, the Black Community Fund (BCF) has been investing in the African American community in Greater Kansas City for over 30 years. BCF grants provide support to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations focusing on enhancing the socio-economic aspects of the African American community in the Greater Kansas City area.
BlaqOut
BlaqOut is a Black- and LGBTQIA+-led racial justice and health equity organization. Founded in 2017, they work to improve healthcare access for the most marginalized while advocating and creating safe spaces for Black queer and trans Kansas Citians, and is committed to serving everyone in need of easily accessible, no-cost services, like comprehensive STI screenings and treatment, lab screenings, health insurance navigation, and transportation.
Community Builders of KC
Community Builders of Kansas City is Kansas City’s largest urban core developer strengthening families and transforming communities. A not-for-profit community development corporation, CBKC personally works with the neighborhoods they serve to build meaningful relationships, acting as a community convener, facilitator, and resource for services.
Greenline Foundation
Greenline Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental health in the historically under-resourced communities on the Eastside of Kansas City. Through creative repurposing of forgotten and vacant lots into productive and vibrant community spaces, Greenline is committed to transforming areas that are most likely to lack thoughtful greenspace development for healthy outdoor engagement, into hyper-local community greenspaces.
Happy Bottoms
HappyBottoms is KC’s diaper bank. Since 2009, HappyBottoms has distributed more than 23 million diapers to local families so that their children can stay clean, dry, and healthy. HappyBottoms provides diapers through a network of more than 65 social service agency partners and 5 hospitals.
Kansas City Defender
Kansas City Defender is a Black nonprofit community media platform employing innovative digital and community-building strategies to engage Gen Z and Millennials across the midwest and combat Black news deserts. The Defender’s primary areas of focus are education, justice, business, arts & culture, and technology.
Kansas City G.I.F.t
Kansas City G.I.F.T. works to reverse the effects of systemic racism by building an empowered community of Black business owners. Founded in May 2020, the small-business accelerator knocks down barriers to success by offering access to financial support, marketing services and other professional resources.
Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM) is the world’s only museum dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich history of African-American baseball and its impact on the social advancement of America. The privately funded, 501 c3, not-for-profit organization was established in 1990 and operates two blocks from the Paseo YMCA where Andrew “Rube” Foster established the Negro National League in 1920.
reStart
reStart exists to end homelessness in KC by serving all people facing or experiencing homelessness with wrap-around services that inspire hope. reStart, Inc began in 1981 and is the only provider that serves all unhoused populations while providing emergency, temporary and permanent housing programs. Four decades later, it has grown into one of the region’s largest homeless service providers and mobilizes teams, partners and larger community to shepherd residents from homelessness to safe and stable housing.
WeCode KC
WeCode KC is a minority and woman owned innovative technology nonprofit organization leading the way in expanding access and equity to Computer Science (CS) Education in marginalized youth and young adults. Serving the urban core of Kansas City, WeCode KC exposes underestimated youth to various computer science concepts and builds leadership skills, creating a pipeline of future-ready professionals through project-based learning.
